In Singapore, more patients are exploring non-surgical options to address the signs of facial aging. With the rise of aesthetic medicine, HIFU facelift has gained significant attention as an alternative to the traditional surgical facelift. But how do the two compare? This article explores the differences between HIFU treatment in Singapore and surgical facelifts to help patients make an informed decision based on their goals, skin condition, and lifestyle.

HIFU, or High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound, is a non-invasive treatment that uses focused ultrasound energy to stimulate collagen production deep within the skin. At Astria Medical Aesthetics, we use Ultraformer MPT to administer HIFU facelift, a medical-grade technology designed to target the superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) layer – the same layer targeted during surgical facelifts.
The Ultraformer MPT, also known as Shurink Universe, is the newest generation of Korean HIFU technology. It uses Micro Pulsed Technology to deliver multiple small bursts of ultrasound energy with greater precision and comfort compared to traditional HIFU devices.
Micro pulses reduce heat diffusion, minimising discomfort and improving recovery times.
Doctors can adjust the energy to different skin layers (1.5mm to 4.5mm), allowing personalised treatments.
The refined technology enables quicker treatments while maintaining effective lifting and tightening.
HIFU treatments are especially suited for patients in their late 20s to 50s who are beginning to notice skin laxity but are not yet ready for surgical intervention.
A traditional facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure that lifts and tightens the facial tissues. During the procedure, a doctor makes incisions near the hairline and ears to remove excess skin, reposition tissues, and tighten underlying muscles.
This method is often considered for more advanced signs of aging, such as deeper wrinkles, sagging skin, and significant volume loss. It offers more dramatic and immediate results but comes with increased downtime and higher risk of complications.
| Feature | HIFU Facelift | Traditional Facelift |
|---|---|---|
| Invasiveness | Non-invasive | Surgical procedure |
| Downtime | Minimal | 2–4 weeks recovery |
| Results Timeline | Gradual (2–3 months) | 6 months |
| Duration of Results | 9–12 months | Several years |
| Pain Level | Mild discomfort | Mild discomfort |
| Treatment Time | 30 mins | 2–4 hours |
| Maintenance | 6 months | Less frequent |
HIFU facelift procedures are completely non-invasive and performed in-clinic. They don’t require incisions or anesthesia, making them suitable for patients seeking lower-risk options. Traditional facelifts, while more comprehensive, are surgical and involve associated risks like scarring and infection.
Patients undergoing HIFU treatment in Singapore often resume daily activities immediately after the session. With traditional facelifts, the recovery process can span several weeks, during which patients need to manage swelling and avoid strenuous activity. The full recovery from a surgical facelift typically takes around 6 months.
While HIFU facelift treatments in Singapore are more accessible in terms of cost compared to surgery, the HIFU Singapore price varies depending on several factors:
Full-face rejuvenation typically costs more than targeted areas like the jawline or forehead.
Some patients may achieve their desired results in one session, while others may require multiple treatments.
Devices such as Ultraformer III and Doublo Gold are still widely used; however, newer technologies like Ultraformer MPT offer greater precision, comfort, and efficiency.
| Treatment | Cost Range (SGD) | Pros | Cons |
|---|---|---|---|
| HIFU Facelift | $800 - $1,500 | Non-invasive, minimal downtime | Results are gradual |
| Traditional Facelift | $10,000 - $30,000 | Immediate, long-lasting results | Requires surgery, longer recovery |

Some patients prefer non-invasive options due to busy schedules, lower risk, or desire for gradual improvement. Others may value the one-time correction and long-lasting results that surgery offers.
During consultation at Astria, our doctors assess your facial anatomy, skin elasticity, and lifestyle to recommend the best treatment path.
At Astria Medical Aesthetics, we believe in educating our patients and offering treatments that align with both their aesthetic vision and overall well-being.
HIFU works best for mild to moderate laxity, such as early jowls, a softening jawline or a slightly heavy lower face. In consultation, the doctor assesses skin thickness, the amount of loose skin, fat distribution and bone support. If skin is very loose or there are deep folds of excess skin, HIFU alone is unlikely to give the result you expect, and we will tell you honestly that a surgical opinion may be more appropriate.
For many patients, the best plan is a combination: HIFU for tightening, with fillers or collagen-stimulating injectables to restore support where volume has been lost.
HIFU is non-invasive, but you may feel heat and deep prickling during treatment. Afterwards, mild redness, swelling and tenderness along the jaw are common for a few days. Less commonly, temporary numbness or small bruises can occur. Careful mapping of the face helps avoid nerves and areas where the skin is thin.
HIFU is generally not recommended during pregnancy, over areas with active infection, open wounds or severe acne, or over metal implants in the treatment area. Let your doctor know if you have had recent fillers or threads in the area.
Some firmness may be visible soon after treatment, but most of the lift develops over two to three months as new collagen forms. Results typically last around a year, depending on age and skin quality, and maintenance sessions keep them going. HIFU will not match the degree of lift from surgery, but it offers gradual, natural-looking improvement without incisions or extended recovery.
Whether you’re considering HIFU facelift as a preventive measure or weighing it against surgical options, knowledge is key. Each option offers unique benefits, and the right choice depends on your skin condition, expectations, and comfort level.
